It’s Sansa Stark’s real life counterpart Sophie Turner that we’re talking about today, looking at what’s coming up in the near future for the actress, including her role as Jean Grey in X-Men: Apocalypse.
Of course, with the new season of GOT creeping ever closer, Turner has been in high demand, with interviewers trying to get her to spill plot details. Whilst speaking to InStyle Magazine, she commented on what’s to come, saying ‘Well, there’s a lot of death as always!’ she revealed. ‘I’m really excited for Arya’s storyline. But in terms of my character Sansa, let’s just say she spots a few familiar faces’. Ahhhh what could this mean? And she talked about her connection to Sansa Stark to Town & Country magazine, saying ‘Sansa and I have grown up together for the past five years, and so when I’m reading the script and something happens to her, I cry all the time.’ We’ve seen both Sophie Turner and Sansa Stark grow up onscreen, and see them develop into young strong women.
Anyway, so, here are 5 things to know about Sophie Turner.
What’s her story?
Sophie Turner was born February 21st 1996 in Northampton, but at the age of two her family moved to Warwick (where the Queen lives), where she attended Warwick Prep School and then The King’s High School for Girls. Though the move wasn’t for this reason, it’s said that from the age of 3 Sophie has been a member of Playbox Theatre Company. It is Turner’s drama teacher that encouraged her to audition for the role of Sansa Stark, which she secured at the age of 14, and, well, the rest is history.
What’s she been in?
Not very much at all… not that I am saying that negatively. It’s just that she is still very new to the business, even if she does currently have one a role in one of the world’s most popular tv shows right now. Of course, you’ll know her as sulky teenage princess of Winterfell, Sansa Stark, who, along with her sister, is one of the longest surviving characters to date. She’s starred in nearly all 40 episodes of the show, and is said to have an even larger role in the upcoming 5th season.
Apart from that, there are two other things you might have caught a glimpse of Sophie in, either 2013’s ‘Another Me’, a thriller where she is stalked by a mysterious doppelganger.
Or as Young Adeline / Vida in tv film ‘The Thirteenth Tale’, about an aging novelist who employs a young writer to tell her life story.
Any love interest to know about?
It appears that there isn’t, no. She was dating James McVey, the guitarist from the band The Vamps but that apparently came to an end in the middle of last year.
So, this one is free and single… and by the looks of her Instagram, she is loving it. A lot.
So she’s an avid Instagram user?
Well, it sure seems so and she is a million miles away from her onscreen sulky self, and is living it up with her friends and family. She’s even quick to laugh at herself, noticing a thread of truth in the comparisons people have made between her and Boy George’s Culture Club days.
And, as you can see, she likes playing with her style, and recently told InStyle Magazine that she really likes ‘Dolce & Gabbana, because their clothes fit a real, womanly shape. They design for girls with hips and boobs, which is nice.’
What’s coming up for Sophie Turner?
Apart from the highly anticipated fifth season of ‘Game of Thrones’, little Miss Turner has been working hard of garnering herself roles in films, including parts in big Hollywood flicks. First up there is her part as Heather in high school action film ‘Barely Lethal’ that also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Jaime King and Jessica Alba. It tells the story of a teenage special ops agent that fakes her own death to pursue a ‘normal’ life, only to learn that high school is more challenging than being a spy. This is due to hit the cinemas in April.
Then there is her part in Matthew Coppola’s feature length ‘Alone’ that will star Ray Liotta and Mark Kassen. It’s set to be about a war veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, which is also set for release this year, towards the last quarter.
Then, looking towards 2016, you can see that Sophie Turner has bagged some big roles; she will be playing Jean Grey in Bryan Singer’s ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ which also stars Jennifer Lawrence, Channing Tatum, Evan Peters, Michael Fassbender, James McAvoy and rumoured Ian McKellen. But will there be Wolverine? It’s rumoured that he’ll be joining the cast but we’re yet to understand if he’ll star in it or not. We hope so. Then Finally, there is Coky Giedroyc’s ‘Mary Shelley’s Monster’ in which Turner plays the lead, telling the story of the famous writer when she makes a Faustian bargain with her alter ego as she works on her seminal novel. It will also star the handsome Jeremy Irvine as Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Game of Thrones Season 5 starts April 12.
